Why is there a link to this page on the post you just saw?

Some subreddits prohibit including images, but Reddit has a link harvester that will try to find images in the links in the post, and will sometimes find them on some script/audio hosts. There's no good way for the post author to opt out of this, so Reddit finds an image for them and their post risks being removed.

By including a link to this page (or any other page without prominent images) before any other links, Reddit will try to find images on this page, not find any and therefore not pick up an image thumbnail for use in your post.
